On each watch produced since 1963, Timex has imprinted the dial with a special code number for ease in model identification. This code number is printed on the face of the dial and is not normally visible until the movement is uncased. This code number will tell you the Timex sales catalogue number, the movement number and the year of manufacture.
1. The last two digits designate the year of manufacture (refer to illustration – in this case, the last two digits are 65. Therefore the watch was produced in 1965).
2. The two digits immediately preceding the year of manufacture designate the movement number (refer to illustration – in this case, these two digits are 24. Therefore, movement number is Model 24).
3. The remaining digits (four digits if produced prior to 1971 and 5 if produced from 1971 on) designate the Timex sales catalogue number. (Refer to illustration – in this case, the sales catalogue number is 2014).
In addition, this catalogue features a section titled “Section 4 – Watch Identification”. In this section, you will find an illustration of every watch Timex has produced since 1961. Following each illustration is the year of manufacture, the catalogue number and the movement number.
