Vintage Heuer Triple Chronograph Watch ref. 2446 2nd Execution 1964

Approx serial range: 532XX – 599XX

Movement: Valjoux 72

Details:

The sub registers and markers are different from the 1st execution and lume plots are applied directly to the dial. This reference also had a slightly different dauphine hand style to the one usually used on the 1st execution. 2nd execution should have the all lume bezel, although it is possible non lume bezel could be fitted if the serial falls towards the very end of the run and therefore close to the transitional “3rd execution” introduction. Bezels could also have been swapped out at service for the non lume variety at a later date. Early and correct lume bezel always attracts a premium and is more desired. Movements can be signed Ed Heuer or Heuer Leonidas (later serials) with crowns unsigned. Casebacks are normally Ed Heuer signed (but towards the end of the run Heuer Leonidas were phased in). For some reason casebacks seemed to change to Heuer Leonidas later than the movement bridge. There are two dials variations, one with “Swiss” signed in the sub register and an even rarer earlier version with the “Swiss” at the bottom of the dial. Early 2nd execution dials were Radium applied and dials “Swiss T’ signed were Tritium applied either from new to during service after the 1964 legal requirement.
